Some of us are simply not very photogenic. But we all know that’s well and truly unacceptable on your wedding day. So here are a few tips to help you fake it until you make it and feign being photogenic on your big day.
1. Practise your poses
Spend some quality time with your partner in front of the mirror. Keep practising posing together until you find a few poses that fit. This way you can pose together confidently on your wedding day and get some good snaps. Have some fun, not all of your photos have to be serious.
2. Put your best foot forward
If there’s a particular part of your body that you’re not madly in love with then conceal it. This doesn’t necessarily mean hiding away, rather showing off your best bits instead and finding the right poses that accentuate them. Certain poses make you look better in photographs. For example, holding your arms slightly away from your body makes them look slender.
3. Get made-up
Did you know that the camera can actually tone down your make-up? For this reason it might be worthwhile applying more make-up than you otherwise would. Make sure you don’t go over the top however – you don’t want to be looking drab or like a drag queen.
4. Remember your posture
You’d be surprised by how much your posture has an effect on your overall appearance, especially in photos. Slouching isn’t pretty. Plus, standing directly face-on to the camera will make you look wider than you actually are. We would advise that you turn your body slightly towards the camera.
5. Don’t worry, be happy
The most important thing is to relax and keep it natural. The reason being, if you’re not totally comfortable this will show in your photos. Psychologists have found that smiling releases chemicals in your brain that will uplift your mood immediately. So, take a deep breath and smile, ready for your close-up.
You can never be too prepared for your big day. Taking time out to consider how you want your photography to turn out may just put your mind at ease. And it helps to have a great photographer to act as your guide throughout the whole process. If you’re looking for an experienced wedding photographer, get in touch!
